Education Programs

Music education for concert audiences, students and aspiring young musicians has been a core mission of the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival since our founding in 2001.
Music Education

Our artists are encouraged to provide commentary on the repertoire they are playing during their performance.

Beth Newdome Fellowship

Beth Newdome Fellowship Artists are selected every year from the nation’s leading conservatories. These promising young artists are mentored by the professional musicians on our schedule, culminating in regular performances before Festival audiences.

Master Classes

The internationally acclaimed Dover Quartet, our quartet-in-residence, conducts a free master class each season. The group has mentored ensembles from The Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (a magnet high school in Jacksonville); the Jacksonville Youth Symphony Orchestra; music students from the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University; and youngsters from The Faith Christian Academy in Fernandina Beach. These master classes, which are open to the public, draw large audiences every year.

Christopher Rex String Seminar

The primary purpose of the Seminar is to be a premier training and mentoring program which also provides performance opportunities. Two outstanding college quartets will receive intensive, private coaching by the members of the Dover Quartet. The Seminar will culminate on the final day of the program on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Stay tuned for more information on our 23rd season which will feature two talented quartets:

String Education Program at BGC Nassau
Strings Education Program

The Festival has identified the need for strings education in Nassau County. To that end, our Strings Education Program initially joined with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau County to promote a five-day-a-week strings education program. Students will receive a half-hour lesson on one day and then half-hour practice times on the other four days. Instruments are provided and there is no cost to the students. The Festival received a $10,000 matching grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the Strings Education Program for the 2019 calendar year. A generous donor couple gave $10,000 to match the grant.

Making concerts readily available to students is made possible through a variety of ticket discount programs. Most notable is the Student/Teacher/Parent Complimentary Ticket Program that provides up to four complimentary tickets to any concert that is not sold out a week ahead of time. These tickets are available for the student, the teacher and the parent(s). The student is required to write a brief essay about the concert.
