Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival Announces Cancellation Of March 19 Itzhak Perlman Concert Due to Coronavirus Threat

Fernandina Beach, FL—March 11, 2020—The Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival today announced the cancellation of the Itzhak Perlman performance scheduled for March 19.

Mr. Perlman’s appearance has regrettably been cancelled due to precautionary measures regarding COVID-19. All efforts will be made to reschedule his appearance in the future.
Refunds to purchasers of tickets to this concert will be made as soon as possible.

Upcoming concerts in the Festival’s 2020 season include a Free Family Concert with the Kelly/Scott Jazz Quintet on March 27, a Free Concert in Amelia Park with the UNF Big Band Ensemble on March 28, and piano virtuoso Valentina Lisitsa on March 31.

 


 

Violinist Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. Born in Israel in 1945, Mr. Perlman completed his initial training at the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv. He came to New York and soon was propelled into the international arena with an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1958. Since winning the prestigious Leventritt Competition in 1964, Mr. Perlman has appeared with every major orchestra and in recitals and festivals around the world. He also is a frequent presence on the conductor’s podium with such major orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra and the London Philharmonic. His recordings have garnered 15 Grammy Awards. Mr. Perlman was honored in 2008 with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence in the recording arts. (learn more…)

 

Mr. De Silva began his piano studies with his mother, Primrose De Silva, and with Mary Billimoria. He spent six years at the Royal Academy of Music in London , and received many awards including the Grover Bennett Scholarship, the Christian Carpenter Prize, the Martin Music Scholarship, the Harold Craxton Award, and the Chappell Gold Medal for best overall performance.

Rohan De Silva has partnered with violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman in worldwide recitals, and every notable violinist on the concert stage today. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and at the White House at the invitation of President Barack Obama in 2012 for Shimon Peres; and at a State Dinner in 2007 hosted by President George W. Bush for Queen Elizabeth.
