Peck Center Fernandina Beach

Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival

The building, known as the Peck Center has a long history in Fernandina Beach.  The original school building was for African Americans and was a four-room building known as Colored School No. 1. Professor Moses H. Payne opened the school in 1885. He passed away in 1888 and Professor Peck was promoted to be assistant principle. He developed the high school’s curriculum and in 1891, the school graduated its first senior class.

Today the Peck Center is used for different events, classes and recreational activities.  It is also home to several City of Fernandina Beach offices and not-for-profit organizations.  With it’s auditorium and the gymnasium it is the perfect venue for some of the Amelia Island Chamber Music concerts and events.
